Fall is officially here! How do you plan to celebrate fall this year? There are a lot of farms offering corn mazes, pumpkin patches, and many other activities.
Corn mazes can be a lot of fun for families and people without kids. Some farms have really big mazes, while others mention them as an aside, so are probably better for smaller kids.
Setting up a corn maze is a lot of work, involving planning months ahead of time. Often they are done with computer help, and fancy mazes cost a lot of money.
Farms plant the maze at a higher density than a regular field, sowing them later than a regular crop. That way the stalks are still up in October and into November.
A farm that has a corn maze usually offers pumpkins and hayrides as well. There are many that offer games, animals, and a few that have live entertainment.
Visiting a farm in fall is great fun for the whole family. Getting out in the cooler weather, anticipating Halloween by picking the perfect pumpkin, and enjoying a hayride can be fun activities for all.
Supporting your local farms is important as well. Often they have farm grown produce for sale as well. Keeping the farms as farms means less traffic, more beauty, and great natural areas for wildlife.
When visiting a farm, be smart about your clothes and don’t bring pets unless they allow them. Wear comfortable clothing that can get dirty. Bring water, sunscreen, and a hat.
